How did you come up with the idea for MODEST MIDDLES?
I designed MODEST MIDDLES nursing tank tops out of necessity. After each baby, I tried to find a nursing shirt that looked good AND KEPT ME COVERED, while allowing me to easily access the nursing bra of my choice. I couldn't find it so I designed what I needed. Another mom at the park encouraged me to sell my "undershirts" and MODEST MIDDLES was born.
How did a speech therapist get into the breastfeeding top business?
I started and ran a successful speech/language pathology practice focused on serving children with Autism and their families until a year after my 4th child was born. With her birth, I realized that I needed a home-based business in order to take care of my kids and work my entrepenurial interests around my family. I decided to start MODEST MIDDLES in May of 2008 and began selling in October of that year. Motherhood has been an extremely creative experience for me. I like to say that after four children a product was born!
How are MODEST MIDDLES different from other nursing shirts/tanks?
The typical nursing shirts looked like nursing shirts with that gappy panel that never stayed in place. I always fumbled trying to get myself out of the odd "slit" which just ended up frustrating me and my baby. The nursing tank tops I could find all came with built-in bras; they simply didn't offer me enough support. I wanted something to cover the "battle scars of pregnancy" so that I could nurse my baby confidently and modestly.

I designed the sizing to be comparable to the sizing for regular shirts.
Size Small Modest Middle for Standard Shirt Size 0-6
Size Medium Modest Middle for Standard Shirt Size 8-12
Size Large Modest Middle for Standard Shirt Size 14-18
Size X-Large Modest Middle for Standard Shirt Size 18+
Some things to keep in mind are:
(1) the torso length was designed to be approximately 1" longer than a standard shirt to give moms extra coverage around the middle---women who typically wear petite sizes are recommended to actually order one size SMALLER than they would typically wear because they don't need the added torso length
(2) the straps are adjustable so that you can tailor the fit
(3) the fabric is really soft and stretchy---Modest Middles are meant to "hug" your middle comfortably. They will conform to your body as it changes; consequently, if you are between sizes, it is recommended that you order the smaller size.
